As I discussed in Yesterdays Blog, Taking The First Steps, my objective is to Page One Rank on Google. Not an easy task, but that’s what I am attempting to do with my website AffiliateMakeMoneyOnlineProgramWays and the knowledge I have learned from the affiliate program that I am a member of.

The Prize

The Prize

The beginning

Here we are at the beginning of the journey and this is what I’ve done so far:

Bought and registered a domain name

Bought some hosting space

Built a simple HTML website

Tweeted the URL

Submitted the URL to Google and Yahoo

Written an article and submitted it to a directory site

This doesn’t look much but most of this knowledge has been learned from the Affiliate Learning Program that I am a member of and without the program I would have got stuck very quickly.

Do I have a Page One Rank? You must be joking I haven’t even been indexed yet. Indexing is where the search engine actually recognizes that your website exists. How do I know that they have indexed me or not? What you do is go to the Google search box and type in the URL like this http://www.abcdefg.org. If your site appears as a first Page One Rank search, then the Google search engine has at least recognized that your site exists.

Simple Indexing Strategies

The indexing process usually takes a few weeks or it may take longer depending on how active you have been at promoting that site. Simple steps that you can take to get your site indexed are:

  • If you haven’t got a Twitter Account then go and open one up and try and use a name close to your website URL. In there you can put a link to your site. Make a simple tweet and include your URL in the message.

  • Actually submit your site to the search engines. For example go to Google and type in ‘submit site’ and a Google page will come up allowing you to submit your domain name in there.

  • If you are a member of a decent sized forum and the rules allow it, you can include your website signature there and get involved in discussions with the other members on your chosen subjects.

These are some of the indexing strategies that you can use. Do you know of any others? If so let us discuss them in the comments feature on this blog. Remember I am a beginner and I am still learning the basics.

Registering a Domain Name and Directing it to Your Host Account

When buying a domain name there are a huge choice of registrars. I picked one from Moniker.com and I purchased my hosting account from Justhost.com. They are very competitive and have a series of plans depending on how long you would like to take a hosting server for.

I have found the service to be excellent so far, which includes a live chat help facility and a great c-panel (this is where you manage all the hosting facilities) where you can set up your emails and much more. There is a great facility in there called fantastico deluxe which helps you install wordpress so that it can communicate with the hosting account.

If you are planning to run more than one website from your hosting account then, maybe look at paying a little extra for a dedicated IP address with your hosting purchase.

Once you have bought your domain you will have to go into your Domain registrar account and change the Domain Name Servers(DNS) so that they point at your hosting account.

So now you have your Domain Name pointing at your host server account you now have to decide how you are going to manage the information on your website. You can decide on a web building software, if you want a standard HTML website, or Blog building software like Wordpress if you want to maintain a Blog.

I hope that’s been useful to you and I will carry on doing some more activities to promote my site to a Page One Rank. Catch up with me in part 2 of Page One Rank and we will explore some more strategies to get to the top of the pack!
